Nicholas emmigrated about 1855 ‎(according to the 1900 Federal Census)‎ a nd settled in Detroit, Michigan. He lived on the SE qunadrant of Grati ot and Van Dyke and was engaged in gardening and farming a small farm. P aul said the farm was about 25 acres.

Nicholas and Margaret were married at St. Mary's Church at 646 Monroe A ve Detroit, MI 48226. Thomas, Katherine and Nicholas Walch were baptize d there. The rest of the children were baptized at St. Anthony's church a t 5247 Sheridan St. in Detroit 48213-2868.
