Accident occurred on the return trip, picking up Andrew's first cousin, Peter Stenzel (suffering with cancer), from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota; he was a front seat passenger in a 1957 Chevrolet, driven by Andrew's nephew, Marvin Stenzel (Peter's son) was driving, and Peter Stenzel in the back seat. The roads where patched with melting ice. The were struck by a 1955 Ford station wagon, driven by Ted Thornblade, 41, (son Ronnie Thornblade also in car) of Mason City, Iowa, that lost control on the ice, crossed the center line, and struck their vehicle on the passenger side. They were believed to be partially off the road (on the right) at the time, because they said they were slowing down to stop, because Peter was feeling ill. No one else was seriously hurt. There was two reason he went that day, one to pick up his first cousin and two to look at some pigs on the way to Rochester, that he and Marvin were thinking of purchasing.
