Manville W. Elmer, age 85 of Wells, died on Monday, Sept. 4th at his home in Wells. Funeral services will be on Friday, Sept. 8th at 11:00 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wells. Pastor Meg Sander will officiate. Interment will be in Rosehill Cemetery in Wells with military honors by the Wells Color Guard.
Manville W. Elmer was born on Jan. 23, 1921 in Clark Twp., the son of William Edward and Minnie (Boeder) Elmer. He graduated from Wells High School. He served in the US Army during WW II and was honorably discharged. On Oct. 23, 1941 he married Martha Schmidt in Wells. He graduated from Ag School and farmed and raised cattle all of his life. Manville was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, taught Sunday School, served on the church council, and was a past-president of the Brotherhood menÂ’s group. He served on the Wells Rural Electric Association Board for 23 years as a director and was secretary for many years. He also was a member of the Farm Bureau, the Faribault County Fair Board and Historical Society. He and Martha enjoyed dancing; playing cards, visiting, farming and he loved to read books.
He is survived by 4 daughters: Geraldine Baynard of Wells, Marilyn (Kerwin) Cordes of Comstock, Wisconsin; Beverly Elmer of Wells, and Ruth (Lyle) Holland of Mankato; one son Russell (Nancy) Elmer of Wells. 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. One sister Alverna Ehlert of Wells, and one sister-in-law: Vonnie (Ken) Walker of Wells.
Preceding him in death are his parents, his wife in 1988, one granddaughter, Christine Elmer. |
