Ada Agnes (Gilbertson) Jacobson, age 97, of Wells, MN, died Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at Parkview Care Center in Wells. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Minnesota Lake Twp. Faribault Co. MN at 11:00am. Visitation will be Monday, December 1, 2014 from 5:00 – 7:00pm at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells, MN, and will continue one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church. Interment will be in church cemetery, and Father Bernie Grady will officiate. Ada was born September 19, 1917 the daughter of Adolph and Agnes (Thykeson) Gilbertson on the family farm by Manchester, MN. From the age of 8, Ada was raised by three caring couples, John and Kate Dombroske, Olaves and Erma Stensrud and Clarence and Inga Christenson. She graduated from Freeborn High School in 1934, where she was the salutatorian of her class. Ada married Gerald (Jerry) Jacobson, June 10, 1937, in New Richland, MN. To this union two children were born, Lois and George. Ada worked as a secretary, school cook, egg candler and store clerk. Jerry and Ada raised their family in Freeborn, MN, they then moved to Stacyville, Osage and Charles City, IA, before retiring in Wells. For years Ada wintered in California with George and Carol Jacobson. Ada, George and Carol also traveled to Peru to visit family friend Father Bernie Grady. Ada loved to garden, bake cookies, do crossword puzzles and play games. She was an avid knitter of mittens, sweaters, and afghans for her family. Ada sent hundreds of mittens to Queen of Peace Monastery in Belcourt, ND, where they were given to Indian children on the reservation. She taught all her family, including her great grandchildren how to make lefse. Ada was an American Legion Auxilary President of Mitchell County, IA, an active member of Congregational churches in Freeborn, MN and Charles City, IA and St. Paul's UCC of Minnesota Lake, MN. Ada is survived by her children: Lois Stenzel of Wells, MN, and George (Carol) Jacobson of Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren Greg (Lori ) Stenzel of Wells, MN, Kevin (Cari) Stenzel, Freeborn, MN, Mike (Sue) Stenzel Apopko, FL, Karen (Don) Gimberline, Freeborn, MN, Gary (Jess) Stenzel, Wells, MN, Jennn Jacobson and Geoff Jacobson both of Hollywood, CA; great-grandchildren, Tyler Stenzel, Adam Stenzel, Megan (Dave) Konz, Jacob (Marja) Stenzel, Amy (Grant) Determan, Julia Stenzel, Scott (Bree) Stenzel, Sarah Stenzel, Derek (Jen) Chicos, Dave Chicos, Allison Jacobson; great-great grandchildren, Noah Konz, Charlotte, Adelynn and Lillian Stenzel, and Elyse and Celia Chicos; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Ada is preceded in death by her parents; husband Jerry; siblings, Ernest, Brayton, Buelah, LeRoy and Kermit and their spouses; In-laws George and Jenny Jacobson; son-in-law Emil Stenzel; and great-great grandson Matthew Konz.
