Obituary, Bruss Heitner Funeral Home, Wells, MN Nicholas Valentine Stenzel Nicholas Valentine Stenzel age 85, of Wells, MN, died Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at Parkview Care Center in Wells, MN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, September 11, 2009 at 11:00 AM at St. Casimir Catholic Church in Wells, MN. Visitation will be Thursday, September 10, 2009 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM following the visitation. Father Eugene Stenzel will officiate and burial will be in St. Casimir Cemetery, Wells, MN on Monday, September 14, 2009 at 10:00 AM. Military Honors provided by the Wells Color Guard. Nicholas Valentine Stenzel was born to Joseph P. and Frances (Sonnek) Stenzel in rural Wells, MN. Nicholas graduated from Wells High School in 1943. He joined the US Army and was part of the 84th Ordinance Company. He was discharged on November 25, 1946. He attended vocational school for construction. He moved to Greenland to work in construction. He returned to the United States and worked in the carpentry business. During that time he helped build Madison East Mall in Mankato, MN and numerous other projects. He was a carpenter for 25 years. Nicholas was also an ambulance driver and was very active in the VFW and American Legion, where he served as Post Commander of both organizations. Nicholas loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Wells Rifle Club and he was a strong supporter of conserving the environment and natural habitats. He also really enjoyed fixing things and helping people. Nicholas is survived by his sister Marian Stenzel of Apple Valley, MN; sister-in-law Arlene Stenzel of St. Clair, MN; brother-in-law Arnie Groskreutz of Wells, MN; 2 nephews: Jeff (Linda) Groskreutz and their children Tyler and Katie of Pemberton, MN and Bryce O. Stenzel of St. Clair, MN; niece Laurie Stenzel (partner Michael Hoffman) of Mapleton, MN and numerous cousins and their familes. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Edward Stenzel and sister Irene Groskreutz.
