Dorothy Speltz, 70, a longtime area farm homemaker, died Tuesday, Nov. 8, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester due to a heart attack after a brief illness.
The former Dorothy Walch was born March 14, 1913, in Whitewater Township, Winona County, and married Joseph Speltz Sr. on May 22, 1935, in Immaculate Conception Church at Oak Ridge. They farmed on Oak Ridge until his death on Jan. 6, 1963, and Mrs. Speltz continued to operate the farm with her sons.
Mrs. Speltz was a member of the Council of Catholic Women and of St. Therese's Society at Immaculate Conception Church.
Survivors include three sons, Joseph Jr. of Utica, and Leo and Phillip both of rural Minneiska; two daughters, mrs. LaVaine (Marguerite) Uthke of Eyota and Mrs. Dale (Monica) Thompson of Plainview; 18 grandchildren; two brothers, Stanley Walch of Winona and Eugene Walch of Charlotte, N.C.; and three sisters, Mrs. Chester (Viola) Lukaszewski of Winona, Mrs. William (Evelyn) Van de velde of Buffalo, N.Y., and Mrs. Howard (Beatrice) Siever of Oshkosh, Wis.
The funeral was Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Louis Cook officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
The Sellner-Hoff Funeral Home in Rollingstone was in charge of arrangements.
