Helen Greden February 7, 1928 - May 21, 2011 Helen Ruth Greden, 83, of Altura, died Saturday, May 21, 2011 at Winona Health. Helen was born February 7, 1928 in Kellogg, MN to William and Martha (Steinberg) Schmoker. She graduated from Kellogg High School as the class Valedictorian and then worked at Murphy's Restaurant in Kellogg. On December 28, 1946 she married Norbert Greden in Kellogg. Helen was the Head Cook for the Altura School District, once it consolidated and became Lewiston-Altura, she became the Food Service Director. She worked for the school district for 38 years. Helen was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Altura. Helen enjoyed fishing, crocheting, especially crocheting Lap Robes for Veterans, visiting with friends, little kids, playing cards and flowers. She is survived by her two daughters, Ruth (Steve) Schaefer of Baxter and Bonnie Greden of Altura; brother, Kenneth Schmoker of Kellogg; sister-in-law, Bernelda Greden of Altura; close family friends, Lary & Bunny Ronningen Family of Zumbrota; and she will be sadly missed by her little dog, Sadie and many nieces and nephews. Helen is preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother and five sisters. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Altura with the Reverend Marreddy Pothireddy officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery at Oak Ridge. Visitation will be 5 - 8 p.m., Tuesday at Hoff Funeral & Cremation Service in St. Charles and one hour prior to Mass at church on Wednesday. Helen will be deeply missed by her family and friends and forever remembered for her wonderful cooking.
