Walch, Dorothy Frances Dorothy Frances (Koscielski) Walch, age 84, of Winona, MN, died on Tuesday, March 8, 2011, at St. Anne Extended Healthcare. Dorothy was born on December 12, 1926, in Winona, MN, to John and Laura (Eichman) Koscielski. On July 30, 1948, she was united in marriage with Stanley J. Walch at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Winona. They had four children. She graduated from Winona Senior High School in 1944, attended Winona State Teacher's College and Wood's Kindergarten Training School in Minneapolis. In 1947 she began teaching kindergarten in Durand, WI. In 1948 she continued teaching in Minneapolis until her marriage. Dorothy and her family lived in Minneapolis, St. Paul and White Bear Lake, MN. During this time, Dorothy enjoyed caring for her children and participating in their many activities. This continued when the family relocated to Silver Spring, MD. While in Maryland, Dorothy received a life membership for her work with the Maryland Congress of the PTA. In 1981, she and her husband returned to Winona, where she became very active in volunteer work at Community Memorial Hospital. As a cancer survivor, she also became active with the American Cancer Society as a member of Reach to Recovery, a mastectomy support group. She was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church and also a member, president and secretary of Harvest House. Dorothy is survived by her husband of 60-plus years, Stanley Walch, Winona, MN; daughter, Julie Corcoran (Alan) Beth, Winona, MN; sons, John (Marla) Walch, Falling Waters, WV, and Peter (Janice) Walch, Germantown, MD; grandchildren, Melissa (Eoin) Tynan, Dublin, Ireland, Amanda (Jesse) Lanik, Crystal, MN, Brian Corcoran, Tacoma, WA, Emily Walch, Germantown, MD, Melissa Walch, Germantown, MD, and Christopher Walch, FL; many nieces and nephews; as well as other relatives and friends. Besides her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her youngest son, police officer James E. Walch, Silver Spring, MD; brother, John Koscielski, Minneapolis, MN; and sister, Mary Apka, Eau Claire, WI. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 AM, on Saturday, March 12, 2011, at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church. Monsignor Roy E. Literski will officiate. Private family burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be held at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, on Saturday, March 12, 2011, from 9 AM until the time of the Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorials be directed to the National Alzheimer's Association, Chicago, IL, or to the Recreation Department at St. Anne Extended Healthcare.
