Joseph‎(5)‎ Graduated at Union College, 1815‎(or 1816)‎ with the highest of honors. His first marriage was eliza Seymour daughter of John and Sarah Stoddard, Seymor, of Lisle, New York. Re. Niles of Brinhamton performed the marriage ceremony. He was sheriff of Broome co. in 1820\21. He removed with his familky to Ontario, Wayne county, New York 28 Feb 1824. HIs wife sied 3 Nov. 1828. and he married asecond time October 24 1831, Hannah Maria, widow of Dr. Greenwoos of Ontario and daughter of Noah and Lois Spooner Fuller, of Williamson New York. In December 1836, he moved to Penfield, New York where he resided till December 1839 when he retkukrned to Ontario, New York. He was supervisor of Penfield during his residence there and was always a prominent man in Ontario, serving the people of the town in some capacity his full share of the time. For many years he was a country merchant in Ontario ,But in January 1854. his dwelling-house and store with all their contents, were destroued by fire, reducing him a once to complete poverty. On the death of his sister Sophia he recived
from her a small legacy which enabled him to live comfortably on a farm. At the time of his se
cond marriages he had 3 chilcren and his wife had one. William Eugene Greenwood, and although they afterwards had several children. yet no difference was ever known between the three kinds of children. Yet as charles said he had reside with Them for several months in the family, he never saw a single Expression of jealous feeling or envy on the part of any one of the family's toward another, theirs being one of the few cases in which Stepfathers and stepmother have given entire satisfation to all concerne. In April, 1857 he went to Emporia, Kansas Territory with the idea of founding a new home in the West. He died in Emporia, of congestion of the brain 12 Aug. 1857 just four months after leaving Ontario. She married a thrid time on 19 December 1861 Archibald Huston.. in January of 1866 she past to a quiter place.
