George's obit states he was born in Rockingham City VA. No source for parents name. He was city treasure in Elba and reportedly worked in mills. Both his and his wife obit refer to 3 dtrs and 3 sons, yet there is a William Tate on the census of 1870. This would mean 4 sons, George, Fred, Frank Day Tate and Frank H. Tate who died in 1870 at age 5. Question who William is.

There is a large familly in Rockingham, 1830. Several family of Matthew Tate lived there. Mathew has a son Roady, Joseph, Mathew and
Bernard Hall family in 1850 at age 20. Have always assumed he is our George W. Family story that 2 brothers left for Ohio together. GW obit states he went from VA to OH and onto into Illinois. He is not on the 1857 census of MN, but is in the 1860 census living with Augusta's family.
